Pellet-Making Equipment Experts

Industrial Pellet Mill Manufacturer

Lawson Mills is a leading provider of biomass densification, drying and grinding systems in North America and beyond. Along with our partners Kovo Novak Citonice and smallpelletmill.com (Europe), we are global leaders in pellet machinery manufacturing with over 2,400 systems worldwide. Since introducing this technology to North America in 2008, Lawson Mills has grown to be a supply leader of turnkey industrial-grade grinding and pelleting equipment throughout the US and Canada. We are a 100% North American company that uses the latest machinery to manufacture pellet mill equipment, and we work along with industry leaders from Europe.

We offer peace of mind, from the initial design and layout of your system to the quality build of the machinery in one of our facilities using the best materials sourced from European, American, and Canadian manufacturers. All our systems are NAFTA-compliant (North American Free Trade Agreement), and the controls and motors fit the specific needs of where we sell (208/380/460/575 volt) with CE, CSA, UL certification or equivalent. For most our larger systems we offer onsite installation and training at no additional cost.

Custom Built Grinding & Pellet Making Equipment

Alfalfa Pellets

14mm alfalfa pellets with additional probiotics and other additives make a value-added product for hay producers.

Make your own pellets from just about any material — alfalfa, hops, grass, wood, municipal waste (MSW), algae, or biomass for example — to be used as fuel, feed, fertilizer, bedding, litter, or anything else you need. Do it all with our custom-built turnkey specialized pellet mills. We offer systems that handle everything from grinding to packaging.

Our turnkey pellet mill solutions are suitable for projects from 200 lb/hr* and can include the following:

  • Bale Grinders
  • Wood Shredders
  • Wood Pellets
  • Feed Pellets
  • Hammer Mills
  • Pellet Mills
  • Bagging Systems
  • Mobile Pellet Systems
  • Biomass Drying Systems
  • Hops Pellet Making Machinery

*Pellet production is dependent mainly on feedstock size, moisture, and material preparation. Ideal moisture is 10-12% entering the mill.

Smaller Pellet Mill Systems That Grow With Your Business

Whether you're an entrepreneur or an established business looking to value-add to a waste stream, Lawson Mills' turnkey static and mobile pellet mills are sensible approaches to pelleting. Many customers see the benefits of starting with one or two units then adding another line as they grow, allowing for less initial equipment cost. One benefit is that our unique systems, when linked together for higher production per hour, run at half the power capacity of larger ring die mills. An additional benefit is that if one mill is not running for maintenance or other service work, the others are still producing.

Our History

We've come a long way since our first prototype pellet mill. Jan Novak took existing European technologies that had been around for decades and re-engineered them to produce a system that eliminated many of the problems of older pellet mills. Our company has since grown to proudly serve the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the Caribbean, and Central America.

Our systems are hand-built using only the best materials from North America and Europe. We do not use or build any of our parts from inferior, cheaper materials often found in imported Chinese mills. We simply will not cut corners, and we pride ourselves on our equipment and customer service.

Control Panels

All our North American Control panels
are built in our CSA/UL Approved panel shop

Our Systems Include The Following:

  • 1 Year Warranty*
  • Conditioning arm with mixing system and liquid metering pumps.
  • Integrated fines removal and cooling systems.
  • Secondary hopper for blending multiple dry ingredients available on each model.
  • Our high-quality engineered pellet mill with world-class gear reducers and premium efficiency 3-phase motors.
  • Highest grade tool-steel die and rollers.
  • Feed hopper with anti-bridge technology (gear-driven) for smooth flowing of raw materials.
  • Quality control panels for the smooth and easy operation of the entire system.
  • Patented steam capture chamber (for fuel pellets) or steam release for cool press pellets (for feed or hops).

*Does not include wear items (bearings, shafts, dies, roller heads, etc.). See our warranty page for details.

What Makes Lawson Mills Pellet Mills Unique?

We custom-build pellet mills for your application. Our LM series of systems are designed to take the guesswork out of making pellets. All of our 10-hp + systems include material storage hoppers with self-feeding mechanisms and built-in mixing paddles that prevent the bridging of materials. Also included are the fluid injectors for metering necessary fluid to the conditioning tube, cooling chambers and custom conveyors and pellet cleaning mechanisms that leave the finished product ready for storage. Our automatic central greasing systems leave no doubt that your main bearings have been greased. On top of this, our award-winning pellet mills are of the highest quality and provide high-pressure systems for one of the densest pellets on the market (over 46 lb/cubic ft for fuel pellets). Our components are made out of the highest-grade Italian/French steel; 'Premium Efficient' grade Brook Crompton or Weg USA motors; QPS (C) ULC or CSA; CE control panels; world-class Italian gearboxes; highest quality German dies and rollers; and hand built casings and frames.

Cost Of Production

Cost is important to manufacturers, and we have designed our systems to run at minimal operating costs for both wear items and power consumption. All of our motors and gearboxes have low service-factor ratings, requiring little maintenance throughout their working life. The biggest of our systems (LMXXTS) operates at only 45 kWh, that's about $4/hour (on average) for the electric costs. Most pellets can be made for around $10/tonne (on average) when calculating parts such as grease and wear on dies and roller heads. One person can easily operate linked systems should greater volumes be required. Due to the unique design of the system, binders that other systems require are often not needed (depending on lignin levels in your raw material).

Flexibility Of Our Turnkey Biomass Pellet Mills

You cannot find a more flexible midscale pelletizer on the market that will last as long as our industrial quality systems. Our systems are built with the flexibility of use in mind. Make fuel pellets, feed, hops, fertilizer, or animal bedding materials using one unit, this system will handle all biomass materials at varying moisture levels. The operator can alter the pellet compression depending on the requirement for the finished product. Multiple ingredients can be fed into one pellet, both dry and liquid components can be added automatically to make specialty feeds or fertilizers or blended fuels.
